New level, health potions, New enemy and more!


Hey everyone, it's been a while,

So I know you haven't heard from me in a while here but actually, all the changes and new things, that are being added are on my Taskord page. So if you want to get regular updates about the development, you can subscribe to WanderFox there. But enough talking, let's get to the changes.

New level

If you read the last devlog, you remember, that I mentioned, that I'll be making a whole new area. Well... here it is in its glory... but it's an underground level and it gets really dark in there, so all I can show are these two beautiful rock sprites.

Watch your steps though, there might be some enemies lurking around. Speaking of enemies, let's have a look at the new enemy coming to WanderFox.

Golem

As said in the previous blog post, there is now a new enemy coming - a golem. Golems only appear in the cave level and there aren't many of them, but they have more health and a special move. If you get close enough, they'll charge towards you and hit you. Your first encounter with them might not end well for you, but once you get familiar with them and discover their weakness, they stand no chance.  Here is a look at the new golem enemy:

Boss Fight

One thing that I haven't mentioned in the last blog post is that there is going to be a boss fight in the game. I was wondering what the best way to end the level would be and then I thought, why not make a boss fight. I'm not going to show you how the boss looks and what his abilities are. You're gonna have to wait until the release.

Health potions + the inventory

Now, all that sounds pretty dangerous doesn't it? Don't worry, I have added chests all over the world containing health potions, so you don't have to be scared of going into the boss fight with low health. To keep track of the number of health potions you're carrying and the abilities, I have also added an inventory. The inventory is also the place where you actually use the health potions. Here's a look at the inventory system in action:

So, what's next?

So these are all the new things coming to WanderFox. What do you think of them? Do you have an idea that I could add to the game? Let me know in the comments! Keep in mind that all of these could change during the development so nothing here is final. There are still things that I want to add. For example a menu, I have heard that that is important. Or a victory/death screen, but mainly the thing I need to add is music and sound effects. Once I'm done adding and fixing all the things I want, I will release a demo, so that you can try the game out yourself and also give me feedback/suggestions. So, until next time... 👋
